BANK OF LOIBA. Impressive.

ROUTE FROM VIVEIRO TO CEDEIRA.

On this route we will be able to enjoy the maritime environment and the stunning views left by the famous bank of loiba. We will be able to observe O Fouciño do Porco which is right next to Viveiro. Then we will go to the Bars Stake, we will pass Ortigueira and right from Cariño we will be able to access Cabo Ortegal with spectacular views. From there we will head to the Garita de Herbeira, an impressive place where we must shelter from the wind. Finally we will visit San Andrés de Teixido. From our apartment Costa Reinante Spa we have a route of approximately 100 kms, which are well worth it.

O FOUCY DO PORCO

O Fuciño do Porco is a natural viewpoint that divides the Viveiro estuary, in the municipality of O Vicedo. In addition to the spectacular views, it allows a walk between cliffs through a walkway. It is a
ccessed by taking a signposted detour of the LU-682 road, which joins Viveiro and O Vicedo. It also passes by the beach of Abrela, a spectacular beach with warm waters.

BAR STAKE

We are already in the province of La Coruña. It is the northernmost point (to the north) of the Iberian Peninsula and also geographically divides the Cantabrian Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. It is a place from which you can appreciate the impressive cliffs of the Rías Altas Gallegas, right between the provinces of La Coruña and Lugo. At this point we can see the strength of the waves breaking against the cliffs and the impressive vegetation. With a little luck the abundance of birds that fly over the area. Right next door the beaches of Porto de Bares and the village of O Barqueiro stand out. Stunning seafaring houses with colorful facades.

Access by the AC-862 road (Ferrol-Viveiro) to the O Barqueiro estuary and detour to the port of Bares, by the AC-100.

THE BANK OF LOIBA

Bank of Loiba
Fuciño do Porco Vicedo

Loiba’s bank is known as “The best bank in the world.” It is located on the cliffs of Loiba within the parish of San Julián de Loiba, between the capes of Ortegal and Stake of Bars. From this point you can contemplate wonderful views of the Galician coast within the province of A Coruña.
One of the most special moments to visit the cliffs is the sunset. At this time near sunset you can take spectacular photos of the area.

In addition to the famous bank of Loiba, we can take a hike in the area to enjoy nature in its purest form. The most intrepid can try to descend to the beaches of the area through virtually vertical trails.

To access the area, we must leave the road. Please note that access to the area may not be allowed in certain seasons. However, a free bus is available to access from 11:00 to 20:00, consult the Tourist Office of Ortigueira.

CABO ORTEGAL

Access

Once we have left the bank of Loiba, we headed to Cape Ortegal, being the second most northerly place of the Iberian peninsula. Its access is through the municipality of Cariño, ascending between narrow streets. At the end of the municipality, the road is made, which parallel to the coast line leads to the lighthouse of Cabo de Ortegal. From the road we can see on the right the impressive estuary of Ortigueira and on the left impressive vertical walls.

Lighthouse
Cabo Ortegal. Bank of Loiba

Right next to the lighthouse we will find a parking where you can leave our car and enjoy the views. Especially we can see, in front, three sharp rocks, Os Aguillóns, with a predominance of the white from the guano of the birds. There we can see small boats that access the catch of the bar, an area especially dangerous by the beating of the waves. On the right, and on clear days, we will be able to observe the tip of Estaca de Bares, on the other side of the Ortigueira estuary. And finally, on the left are the highest cliffs of the Spanish coast and the highest in Europe.

Mirador de O miranda

Before heading to the Garita de Herbeira or Vixia de Herbeira, we should make a stop at the Mirador de O Miranda. To do this we take the road back from the lighthouse and turn right on a narrow road. In it we will find wild horses, cows and goats along the road, but the views along this road are worth it. We can also return to Cariño and from there take direction San Andrés de Teixido. If we prefer to walk, we can take a hike among the forests of the area. From the viewpoint of O Miranda we can contemplate the entire estuary of Ortigueira, Stake of Bars in front and Ortigueira on the right. At the bottom, the municipality of Cariño.

La Garita de Herbeira, is with its 615 meters the highest point of the Sierra de A Capelada. It rushes directly into the sea forming the highest cliffs in continental Europe.

We are located on a stretch of the coast open to the Atlantic between Cape Ortegal and San Andrés de Teixido. Will enjoy spectacular views.
Have to be careful if we travel with young children because of the danger of the place especially in the area where the garita is loc
ated. We must also take into account the strength of the wind, we are in a space of high height and right on the edge of the cliffs. 43-43’24.7″N 7-56’45.5″W
